15 weeks have finally passed us by as we have been locked up in our homes and apartments away from gyms, studios and everything in-between.
Whilst most of us are excited to get back to our normal lives, especially those who have missed the gym may be stuck on what exactly they should do first!

Here is what to do (and what not to do) after 15 weeks away from the gym according to founder of Flow Athletic Ben Lucas:
Whilst lockdown was a time for virtual classes, there is nothing like the energy of a group workout! Start your fitness journey back at the gym with some collaborative classes, this way you have that feeling of connectivity and company from other likeminded people.
As most people don’t have home gyms or access to heavier gym equipment during lockdown, getting back to those machines is key to reboot your workout routine at the gym. Making the most of the gym’s equipment will be a refreshing reminder of your pre-lockdown workouts!
Try something slower
Although some people will be racing straight to a spin class or a weights machine, enjoying a slower and more controlled workout can be a great way to ease back into your fitness routine. Enjoying some yoga or Pilates is a great way to mentally prepare yourself for this new gym season and even might help settle some out of lockdown jitters.
Don’t get too excited
Even though you have every right to be excited over lockdown ending, don’t get too excited in the gym and over-exhaust your muscles. Being away from a gym for extended periods of time might mean that your muscles might not be at the same level they once were. Given so, ensure you are working out at a pace that suits your body as it adjusts to its post lockdown life.
Don’t be boring
Even if you only want to come to the gym for weights or cardio, try not to keep your workout routines to the same two or three movements each day. Try to encourage yourself to keep your workouts creative and make the most of different classes that gyms and studio’s have to offer.
Don’t be complacent
As we open our doors again to our members, we encourage that people don’t become complacent in their hygiene standards and equipment courtesy. Now is a time more than ever where doing the right thing is critical for the safety of staff and other members. Before your workouts ensure you are sanitising your hands before touching equipment and after your workouts ensure you are cleaning the same equipment’s used in courtesy of the next person.
